An eleven-year-old girl was injured while attempting to cross a busy road in east Las Vegas late Monday afternoon. The incident occurred at four thirty-eight p.m. on Lake Mead Boulevard, east of Peaceful Spirit Lane.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the child was crossing southbound across Lake Mead in heavy traffic, but outside of a marked crosswalk. A 2019 Nissan Rogue was traveling east in the outside eastbound lane when the driver noticed the pedestrian.

The driver applied the brakes and swerved in an attempt to avoid a collision, but it was too late. The girl suffered serious injuries and was transported to University Medical Center for treatment. Fortunately, the Nissan's driver remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment.

This accident highlights growing concerns about pedestrian safety in Las Vegas, particularly in busy areas. Recent incidents have raised alarms in the community regarding the adequacy of safety measures to protect pedestrians.
