A veteran, retired Las Vegas attorney, Peter Bellon, has been appointed to temporarily replace former Municipal Court Judge Susan Roger, who retired in November 2023. The appointment was made by the City Council after an open recruitment process that saw eight candidates interviewed.

Bellon will serve as the judge for Department 2 until a new jurist is elected in 2026 and will earn a yearly base salary of $220,000. He took his oath of office on Wednesday morning, expressing gratitude to the council and stating, "This will be my last year as a caretaker.

It's an honor to end it on the bench serving the people of Las Vegas, a city that I love." Bellon has lived in Las Vegas since 1980, where he worked various jobs while earning his law degree from St. John's School of Law.

He practiced law for over three decades, founding the Bellon Law Group. The Municipal Court oversees misdemeanor cases, including traffic infractions and low-level criminal cases within city limits. The report highlights ongoing changes in the judicial system, particularly amidst current legal developments.
