Strip pedestrian bridge enclosures have been installed just over a week away from the Formula One Las Vegas Grand Prix returning to Southern Nevada. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, aluminum walls are being added to various pedestrian bridges, including those connecting the Palazzo to Treasure Island, to block views of the race.
This decision comes after a history of crowds on the bridges, where spectators have previously torn down protective shielding to catch glimpses of F1 drivers racing down the Strip at speeds exceeding 200 mph.
The enclosures aim to enhance public safety by preventing items from being thrown onto the street during the race. Lori Nelson-Kraft, senior vice president of corporate affairs for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, noted that the enclosures are a continuation of safety measures from previous years, with the bridges remaining open 24/7 during race weekend.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department will assist in managing pedestrian bridge usage during the event. In addition to the Grand Prix, exciting developments are happening at local casinos, particularly at the Durango Casino & Resort in southwest Las Vegas.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Durango is set to unveil a high-limit slot room and a new parking garage on December 15. This expansion is part of a $120 million investment, which also included a recent addition of 6,000 square feet to the casino floor, featuring over 100 new gaming machines.
David Horn, vice president and general manager of Durango, highlighted that the new high-limit room will be one of the largest in the city, spanning over 8,000 square feet and featuring 120 high-limit slot machines, including 30 brand new games.
The room will also incorporate the Jackpot Express payout system for seamless payouts. The new multi-level parking garage will add nearly 2,000 spaces and improve traffic flow throughout the property. Red Rock Resorts has announced a significant third-phase expansion, set to begin in January, which will add 275,000 square feet to the facility, introducing additional gaming options, a luxury movie theater, and various new restaurant concepts.
This continued investment underlines Las Vegas's commitment to enhancing its status as a premier entertainment destination, poised to attract both tourists and locals alike.
