Las Vegas Crime Incidents Prompt Public Safety Concerns

Multiple arrests were made in Henderson following a carjacking incident reported at gunpoint in Laughlin. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, dispatchers received a call at 1:50 p.m. from an unidentified victim who stated that multiple suspects armed with a firearm had taken their vehicle near the 3200 block of Rio Vista Drive.

The vehicle fled the scene but was tracked down by Metro's Air Unit. The suspects exited the vehicle and were apprehended near Nevada State University, close to Interstate 11 and Wagon Wheel Drive. A Nevada State University student, Raul Fernando Nardelli Martins, reported that alarms went off at the school, prompting a shelter-in-place order for students.

He described how he noticed an increased police presence around the campus as he left his classroom. Officials from Nevada State University later confirmed via Facebook that the shelter-in-place order had been lifted and there was no longer a threat on campus.

Metro Police have not released further details about the incident or the suspects involved. This incident is part of a larger trend of rising violent crime in the Las Vegas area, including recent carjackings and shootings, which have raised significant public safety concerns.
