Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo has called for heightened law enforcement vigilance in response to rising antisemitism following a terrorist attack in Australia that killed 15 people celebrating Hanukkah.

While there are currently no known specific threats to Nevada, Governor Lombardo emphasized the need for proactive security measures as communities prepare for holiday gatherings and events. The Governor's office announced the establishment of a statewide Antisemitism Working Group, which will include members from the Jewish community, such as rabbis and leaders from organizations like Jewish Nevada and the Anti-Defamation League.

This group will serve as a forum for addressing community safety concerns and will submit recommendations for the Governor's agenda by the spring. Additionally, Lombardo has urged increased awareness and coordination among law enforcement, encouraging a visible presence around synagogues, Jewish community centers, and schools.

The Metropolitan Police Department has already increased officer presence at local Hanukkah celebrations in light of these developments. Lombardo stated, "Nevada is home to a diverse and vibrant Jewish community, and like all communities, they have the right to gather, worship, and celebrate without fear." He condemned the recent antisemitic attacks globally as "cowardly and despicable." This increased security response highlights the state’s commitment to protecting its residents amidst a concerning rise in antisemitism worldwide.
