Henderson Police Under Scrutiny Amid Controversial Incidents
Full Transcript
Henderson police are facing increased scrutiny following several controversial incidents. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Councilwoman Monica Larson publicly renounced her political endorsement from the Henderson Police Officers Association, citing a 'persistent lack of integrity, professionalism, and morality' within the Henderson Police Department.
Larson's actions led the two largest police unions, the Henderson Police Supervisors Association and the Henderson Police Officers Association, to withdraw their support, criticizing her for disrespect towards law enforcement.
In a related incident, officers Ernesto Trejo and Riley Gee shot Avyonte Webb five times during a domestic battery call, after he allegedly attempted to flee in his vehicle toward the officers. Webb, who faces multiple charges including assault on a protected person and resisting arrest, is expected to recover from his injuries.
This shooting marks the third officer-involved shooting in Henderson this year, and both officers have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
