Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero delivered the annual State of the City address at the M Resort on November 13, 2025, emphasizing new housing developments and a significant decline in crime rates. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Romero announced that a new master-planned community, the Meriden project by KB Home, is set to provide 940 homes for first-time buyers and those seeking affordable housing, with sales starting in spring 2026.
Additionally, the PulteGroup's Aries project will introduce over 3,000 single-family homes along with parks and trails by summer 2026. Despite these positive housing developments, Romero warned of economic challenges ahead, citing flat or declining revenues and a potential expiration of a property tax supporting city parks.
She highlighted the need for 40,000 housing units by 2029 to meet demand, with a current shortfall of 6,000 attainable units. The mayor also addressed the financial stability of the city, noting a balanced budget and strong reserves, maintaining the highest bond ratings in Nevada.
In terms of economic growth, private investments in Henderson generated roughly $40 million in 2025, creating approximately 600 jobs, with two new casinos, Inspirada Station and Cadence Crossing, expected to open in 2026.
Romero reported a substantial decrease in crime, with violent crime down 18 percent and property crimes down 15 percent, alongside a 53 percent reduction in fatal vehicle crashes. She credited new Police Chief Reggie Rader for reducing the department's vacancy rate to five percent and training a record number of cadets.
Romero also addressed the ongoing legal issues involving Councilwoman Carrie Cox, who faces allegations of surreptitiously recording a conversation, stating that the city would not be distracted from its governance despite these challenges.
The mayor's address reflects ongoing progress in housing initiatives and public safety while acknowledging potential local economic headwinds.
