Community Health Initiatives: New Telemedicine Service Launches
Full Transcript
A new 24-hour telemedicine service called Hermes Health has launched in Las Vegas, aiming to provide accessible concierge healthcare over the phone. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the service offers a solution for patients looking to avoid the challenges of in-person visits.
Founder and emergency room doctor Alex Lin emphasized the goal of connecting resources with the public at a more affordable price. Hermes Health provides three calls per month, allowing patients to consult with doctors for various needs, including prescriptions and screenings.
Typically, calls are on-demand, with wait times averaging less than five minutes. The service has partnered with local imaging centers and labs to offer competitive cash prices for services, bypassing insurance approvals.
For example, patients can get imaging done for around $400 within 24 hours. Additionally, Hermes Health includes a courier service for after-hours prescription deliveries. Individual plans start at $250 per month, while family plans begin at $300, with additional charges for extra family members.
Importantly, all payments are out of pocket, which may benefit those with high deductibles or who are uninsured. Lin, who has worked extensively in Las Vegas healthcare, noted a significant gap in access to care, leading to unnecessary emergency room visits for non-urgent issues.
Currently, Hermes Health has around 50 users in Las Vegas and employs four doctors available 24/7. The company is testing its service in Las Vegas and the Bay Area, with hopes for future expansion as demand grows.
