The Clark County School District Police Department has received a ten thousand dollar grant aimed at reducing the number of students injured in traffic incidents. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, since the beginning of the school year, over one hundred eighty students have been struck by vehicles while traveling to or from school.

Tragically, these incidents have resulted in four fatalities. The report highlights that two twelve-year-old students, Cristofer Suarez and Haylee Ryan, lost their lives in separate crashes near school zones last month.

Additionally, twelve-year-old Jovonn Magee-Thomas was killed in September while riding an electric scooter, and sixteen-year-old Reynaldo Martinez de la Sanchez died after being struck by a vehicle while riding a moped.

In response to these alarming statistics, the Clark County School District Police Department will implement targeted overtime enforcement in areas identified as high-risk for unsafe driving behaviors. This initiative is funded by the Joining Forces School Zone Traffic Safety campaign from the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety.

Authorities have identified distraction, speeding, and impaired driving as the primary contributors to serious and fatal crashes on Nevada's roadways. The initiative aims to enhance law enforcement visibility and increase public awareness, educating drivers to prevent further tragedies.

The Clark County School District is taking these proactive measures to ensure the safety of its students and address community concerns regarding traffic safety in school zones. The report emphasizes the importance of these efforts in light of recent fatalities and the need for protective measures for children as they travel to and from school.
