The White House declared that naming the new stadium for Washington's NFL team after former President Trump would be 'beautiful.' This statement follows an ESPN report indicating that an intermediary communicated Trump's desire for the stadium to bear his name.

Trump is expected to attend the Commanders' game against the Detroit Lions at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland, where American veterans will be honored during halftime. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized that it was Trump who made the new stadium's construction possible.

However, the Washington Commanders' spokesperson stated they had no comment regarding the report, and the office of D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser also declined to comment. The new stadium, projected to cost nearly $4 billion, is part of a deal between the team and the District of Columbia, which includes a return to the nation's capital after more than three decades.

President Biden signed legislation last year allowing the transfer of land from the federal government to the city, facilitating the construction on the site of the historic RFK Stadium. The deal involves the Commanders contributing approximately $2.7 billion, while the city is investing around $1.1 billion for the stadium and surrounding developments.

Although Trump previously threatened to stall the project unless the team reverted to its former name, the city council and the team reached an agreement shortly after. In a July social media post, Trump urged the team owners to change their name back to the Redskins, reflecting ongoing tensions over the name change that occurred in 2020.
