Jasmine Crockett Launches Senate Campaign for Texas Seat Amid Democratic Scramble
Full Transcript
Rep. Jasmine Crockett officially launched her campaign for the U.S. Senate on Monday, filing paperwork just before the state's deadline. In her announcement, Crockett expressed her frustration with current Republican leadership, stating, 'I'm done with going along to get along, and it gets us nowhere.' She emphasized her commitment to addressing crucial issues like rural hospital closures and gun violence.
Crockett will face state Rep. James Talarico in the Democratic primary scheduled for March 3. Talarico has gained national attention, raising a record $6.2 million in the first weeks of his campaign. The incumbent, Republican John Cornyn, is also facing challenges from Attorney General Ken Paxton and U.S.
Rep. Wesley Hunt. The race is expected to be one of the most expensive in the 2026 election cycle, potentially costing over $750 million, according to Republican consultant Vinny Minchillo. Crockett's entry comes after former Rep.
Colin Allred dropped out of the Senate race to run for a congressional seat instead. Crockett has indicated that her campaign aims to unite black and brown voters, believing they can help her secure a victory in a historically Republican state.
However, some Republican strategists expect her candidacy may energize GOP voters against her, as noted by RNC spokeswoman Delanie Bomar.
