Republican Representative Elise Stefanik announced on Friday that she is suspending her campaign for governor of New York and will not seek reelection to Congress. In a statement shared on social media, Stefanik expressed gratitude for the support she received but emphasized that continuing the campaign would be an ineffective use of time and resources, especially given the challenges in New York.

She cited her family as a primary reason for her decision, stating, 'my most important title is Mom' and highlighting her desire to focus on her young son's safety and happiness. Despite being considered a frontrunner for the gubernatorial nomination, her campaign faced complications after Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman entered the race.

The New York State Republican Party has since shifted its support to Blakeman, with party chair Ed Cox endorsing him and respecting Stefanik's decision. President Trump and other Republican allies have publicly supported Stefanik, calling her an incredible advocate for her district.

Stefanik has served in Congress since 2014 and is known for her strong ties to the Trump administration. Her withdrawal from both races marks a significant change in her political trajectory and could reshape Republican strategies in New York as the party navigates upcoming elections.
