U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, has officially entered the Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate as of December 9, 2025. A poll conducted by the Barbara Jordan Public Policy Research and Survey Center at Texas Southern University shows her leading the race with 51% support from 1,600 likely Texas Democratic Primary voters surveyed between December 9 and December 11.
State Rep. James Talarico, D-Round Rock, trails with 43% support. Crockett expressed gratitude for the poll results, stating, 'I am in the best position to mobilize voters who’ve been overlooked, ignored, and excluded.' The poll indicates that she leads in crucial demographics, including women at 57% to Talarico's 36%, voters 55 or older at 59% to 34%, and black voters at 89% to 8%.
Conversely, Talarico has stronger support among white voters at 53% to Crockett's 40%, men at 52% to 42%, and Latino voters at 51% to 41%, with young voters favoring him 63% to 34%. Talarico's campaign noted that he is still building name recognition, with 21% of voters unsure of their opinion about him, compared to only 6% for Crockett.
The conflicting strategies of Governor Greg Abbott and Lt. Governor Dan Patrick regarding property tax cuts were also highlighted in the report, showing the broader political dynamics in Texas as both parties prepare for the upcoming election cycle.
