Democrat Gary Clemons has won a special election for a Kentucky state Senate seat, according to Decision Desk HQ. Clemons, who is the president of United Steelworkers Local 1693 and an Army veteran, defeated Republican Calvin Leach, also an Army veteran and former state Senate candidate, as well as Libertarian candidate Wendy Higdon, who founded the Louisville Tea Party in 2009.
This seat, located in southwest Louisville, leans blue, and Democrats were expected to hold on to it. Clemons will serve the remainder of the term of interim Jefferson County Clerk David Yates, who resigned after being appointed to his current position.
This victory comes in the wake of a series of recent special election wins for Democrats, indicating potential shifts in voter sentiment ahead of upcoming elections.
