Robinhood is set to enter Indonesia's cryptocurrency trading market, targeting 17 million crypto traders. The company announced on Sunday that it has entered into agreements to acquire Buana Capital, an Indonesian brokerage, and PT Pedagang Aset Kripto, a licensed digital financial asset trader.

This move marks Robinhood's entry into one of Southeast Asia's fastest-growing markets, where there are over 19 million capital market investors. By acquiring these firms, Robinhood aims to ease its entry into the Indonesian market, ensuring regulatory compliance and leveraging an established presence.

Patrick Chan, head of Asia at Robinhood, stated that Indonesia represents a fast-growing market for trading, aligning with the company's mission to democratize finance for all. Over time, Robinhood plans to offer its brokerage and crypto trading products to Indonesian customers, connecting them to US equities and cryptocurrencies at scale.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the acquisition is expected to close in the first half of 2026. According to Chainalysis, Indonesia ranks seventh globally in its 2025 crypto adoption index and is a leader in Southeast Asia.

The total transaction value of crypto assets in Indonesia tripled in 2024, surpassing 650 trillion Indonesian rupiah, which is approximately 39.7 billion dollars, highlighting the growth of the crypto market in the region.
